Incandescent Lightbulbs Banned by 2012
In a bold, almost defiant new statement, the Canadian province of Ontario, last week announced that it was banning the sale of inefficient incandescent light bulbs by 2012. The move came as part of a broader effort to cut energy use by the turn of the decade.
From now on, the Ontario government has pledged to only purchase energy efficient bulbs for its own buildings too. A spokesperson said that this one action alone, represents a huge step forward in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, because on a large scale it adds to the equivalent of taking 250,000 cars off the road.
So little at a household level, so much for the planet.
Ontario Energy Minister, Dwight Duncan [left], also announced a number of energy-saving initiatives for 2007, including offering coupons for compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy-saving devices, as well as a 10 percent rebate on electricity bills to consumers who cut power use by 10 percent.
The move by Ontario, Canada's most populous province follows the lead of Australia, which became the first country in the world to announce it would ban incandescent bulbs, by 2010, as a way to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Too bad we didn't get the vouchers and discount initiatives as well?
DID YOU KNOW? : That by changing just (1) of your everyday lightbulbs, to a compact fluorescent Energy Saver lightbulb, is the same for the environment as not driving your car for (2) whole weeks!
Not only will you be helping save the environment, but you will also be saving money on your energy bill.
Compact Flourescent lightbulbs use at least 2/3 the amount of energy, generate 70 percent less heat, and last up to 10 times longer. So go ahead and change those lightbulbs and also add up to $50 in savings on your next quarterly energy bill (calculated on eight flouro-savers per average household) ..
…isn’t that a bright idea!

Replacing all of the 87 million incandescent bulbs in Ontario households with more efficient lighting, such as compact fluorescent bulbs, will cut electricity demand by 6 million megawatts an hour, annually – which is enough to power 600,000 homes.

Compact fluorescent bulbs use about 75 percent
less electricity than old-style incandescent bulb.

Flashes of memories
I stayed in Brisbane last week and noticed that the hotel has changed all of its light bulbs (having stayed there before) to these energy saving babies... I hope the rest follow suit...
great info, thanks

The difference is mega. I changed all the bulbs in our house and I switch things off at the sockets - like TV, DVD player (all those things on standby mode) and I notice great savings on our bill. Money I can now use to enjoy life - things like a regular massage for my weary bones when I've been working hard...*chuckle*
Great to see you!

I was really surprised to see that we were! I can't imagine what came over the PM, can you? But that is so true of so many things Australian ... pioneers in so many things (like my next post too on Beer Power) etc... mostly unsung heroes...
A government that financially backs our inventors, has to be the wave of the future, what say you?
Great to 'see?' you again!
Cheers,

Something to do with the carbs/calories?
I'm hanging on to your every word here... mostly unsung heroes, hey, that's us!
Us three should collaborate and make a song for 'em...
Although I fear you may be the only one that can actually sing in front of a microphone here Lilla. Ash I'm sure can boogie on down with a bassline, I'll be the funky drummer.
Inventors do require financial backing, but so do songwriters! Oh dear a government funded music group, I think I better go back to high school and learn business studies...

..please forgive me... I'm still nto getting all my notifications... it's murder ...I'm having to wander the halls of my previous posts regularly to check for un-answered comments!*#@!
*l-ing ol* at your comment!
Yeah, that sounds absolutely funky and plausible to me... we'll call it the Electric Light Bulb Orchestra, or Be4er?
*chuckle*
I have sung a few times and would welcome this opto-tunity, I'm sure Ash would too.
*waving at Ash*
As for a government funded musco's department *lmao* I think it's better that we starve for a while... at least the paperwork wouldn't have killed off all the creativity. I'm all for boiling the boot, what say you?
*hugs*

Aww thanks so much for that feedback... it does my heart wonders to know that somehow I have contributed in spreading the word and helping things along... and probably saved you enough money on your power bill to fuel the car for an extra two weeks a year too!
My bill here in Oz, dropped by AUD$50 per quarter from replacing all the bulbs in my house. That's a cool saving in my book!

Oh I guess it goes without saying that I do know which end of the tambourine is up too *chuckle*
Don't know Phoebe... but look forward to the jam...
*Waving at Mis*
Maybe you too have percusional skills?
